Dundee is Scotland’s drug deaths capital – but it doesn’t have to be. We have hard evidence from other cities and countries that treating drug addiction as a public health issue, not as a criminal issue, can have a transformative impact on drug deaths.
Our city could benefit from measures like safe injection facilities, decriminalisation, and greater investment in rehabilitation and mental health treatment. So why haven’t these been implemented? What’s standing in the way and how can we overcome it?
Drugs policy is largely reserved to Westminster and its dodgy chambers of right-wing MPs and unelected peers. But with over 1,000 drug deaths a year, our communities just can’t wait for independence to save the day. That’s why Radical Independence Dundee is launching a new campaign for immediate action on the drug deaths crisis. Never mind the excuses or the Westminster threats – now is the time to act!
Join us on Zoom on Tuesday 3rd August, 7pm, to help us plan our campaign – drawing up demands and brainstorming actions.
